What we do
War Child Germany was launched in 2019 - and has quickly developed into a lively hub in Hamburg. With our program, we want to give refugee children and young people a voice – and support them to find their way in the new country, to feel safe and to process their experiences. Music, sports and art form the basis of our activities.
Since 2022, our focus has been particularly on the TeamUp program, which we are building in Hamburg and Berlin and implement in other German cities as soon as possible.
We also raise funds for our international programs, like for Ukraine, Syria and all the other countries where War Child is active. We are thankful to work with a network of famous friends, local cooperation partners and corporate supporters.

With this unique psychosocial support intervention we offer refugee children and young people between the ages of 6 and 18 structured sport, play and movement-based activities. During the non-verbal sessions, they are supported to release stress, gain a sense of safety and pass this feeling on to others.

Creative arts course
Hamburg
Over a span of five months, we conduct a weekly arts workshop for children aged between six and twelve years, aiming to offer a non-verbal activity that is often lacking in refugee centres. Through this innovative approach, an art therapist provides the children with the opportunity to express their creativity and engage in a rehabilitative process.

Basketball Camp
Hamburg
In collaboration with our two partners, Hamburg Towers and Kids &Welcome, children from two refugee centres participated in a team-building intervention and basketball training. This camp laid the groundwork for a concept that both partners will continue on a weekly basis for these children.

Kids & Welcome started as a voluntary initiative in 2015, is now one of the key players in working with refugee children in Hamburg. With their programmes, they bring fun and games into the accommodations that are not designed for the needs of children.
