Meta-analysis process

a) Operational Definition of Meta-Analysis

‘Examination of data from a number of independent studies of the same subject, in order to determine overall trends’ (Oxford dictionary).

Meta-analysis summarizes the analysis and reviews of various aspects of interventions, methodologies and structured activities aimed at addressing the mental health and psychosocial (MHPSS) wellbeing of those affected by conflict, including children (various categories), young people (various categories) and adults. Meta-analysis is potentially powerful in assisting transparent decision-making as it combines results from many different interventions, methodologies and structured activities that are proclaiming to be similar in its intended objectives.

b) Approach

This meta-analysis process will review the availability, implementation, and effectiveness of MHPSS interventions, methodologies and/or structured activities in South Sudan through a structured document review that is guided by agreed criteria such as the process of development, theoretical underpinning, duration of implementation and the availability of external or internal review reports and impact assessments reports. Additionally, this process will collect the views of individuals and groups who participated in the interventions, methodologies and/or structured activities about their experience, impact and recommendations. If outcome data is available also add the results to indicate impact on the individual mental health and psychosocial wellbeing
