TeamUp: Our Mission
To increase the resilience of children, providing structure, emotional stability and social interactions are important.
Building Resilience
To build and develop children’s ability to deal with challenging situations, the support and attention of family and friends is essential. Moreover, providing structure, emotional stability and social interaction are necessary components to increase children’s resilience and coping skills – now and in the future. The diagram above illustrates the process of building resilience.
Structured Activities
Children are most resilient when they feel safe and cared for, in a stable environment, following clear and consistent rules, standards and responsibilities. TeamUp at Home can be an excellent tool to help provide structure for children and their families during the coronavirus lockdown. Engaging in the TeamUp at Home activities on a daily basis, on set days and at fixed times, will help create a new sense of structure and normalcy.
Dealing with Emotions
These challenging times can leave children feeling angry, anxious, stressed and bored. To help them get a grip of their emotions, TeamUp at Home provides a playful way to teach behavioural skills that will also prove useful in day-to-day life.
The TeamUp at Home games can give rise to all sorts of emotions. Winning a game can make children feel excited and happy, while losing may make them feel disappointed. Experiencing these different emotions offers children learning opportunities in how to deal with them. Moreover, TeamUp at Home is a great way for families to blow off some steam, release energy, tension and stress in their bodies and minds.
Positive Social Interaction
To foster healthy development and growth, every child needs the support of their parents and caregivers. Being forced to live in quarantine for an extended period of time - with just parents/caregivers and perhaps siblings to interact with - can lead to feelings of frustration and irritation. TeamUp at Home’s activities encourage positive and enjoyable contact between children and adults living together.
TeamUp is supported by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
